We made it home!

My phone did not work in the Porcupine Mountains.  So I used my camera to take a few risky shots while riding.

Me taking pictures at a very low speed...

Mike, Ian and Ken!

A view from the top of Porcupine Mountain.

Porcupine Forest!

Well I've tried to visit this place a couples times.   I'm finally here.   Should be some nice sites tommorow.

We were pretty lucky to find a couple rooms.   A backwoods wedding is at the hotel bar so it should be an interesting evening.

Great times with the Wencl's.

Wawa

A lunch stop in Wawa!  Subway!  We were so happy to have a regular lunch after the Chinese food experience last night!

Great day of riding so far!  Nc700 likes to go 80mph.   No idea what 90kph means and don't want to know.    We seem to make great time when I am leading the pack!  Very fun curvy SMOOTH roads up here.  We need these road guys in the states!
Here we stopped at a closed ski hill that is now a tourist center.  It rained pretty hard when we stopped at lunch.

Grandma's

We met Ken and Ian at Grandma's in Duluth.  They were not open yet so Ian and Ken grabbed a hotdog at a nearby stand and we hit the road.

View from the cockpit!

The Route!

Heading back towards Siren Wisconsin tonight.  We did go all the way up into the Copper Harbor, Michigan.  C, D and E are where we stayed.  The trip was easily done in 4 days of riding.  I think about 1,500 miles.

Nice view from the hotel this am.

J

Sunday Morning

Well it's pretty nice here in the morning.   I walked down by the lake.   I think we will have a late start as Ken really wants to go to church.

We are going to ride through the porcupine forest and back to the cabin in Suren this afternoon.   Looks pretty nice out.   Cold riding by the lake and hot when not.   Should be a nice day as we head across country away from the lake this afternoon.

Met these love birds in Michigan!

These two were there for the wedding / Anniversary celebration!  Super fun couple!

Pete and Connie!

Wencl Mining Company

These guys were pretty excited about the mine.  I think we all liked this place because it was mechanical in nature...  Very interesting.  No we did not pay for the tour...

Lunch stop in Houghton.

Heading to copper Harbor.  Lunch Stop next to this bridge.  The lower half was for trains, but now is used by snowmobiles in the winter.

We made it to Newberry Michigan!

Were pretty happy right now getting out of Canada!  Beautiful country and great riding!  Maybe it's just that our cell phones and Pandora will work again!

A great day of riding!   Sweepers and great scenery.   It's just to hard to take great pictures when your flying that fast.  If you want to see it, plan yourself a trip!

Yesterday entering Canada!

After waiting around a while, they let Ian in!

Ian is staying in Canada!

They harassed him so much coming in, he decided to stay!  This was taken yesterday.

Friday morning in Nipigon baby!

So Mike and I think the crappier the motel/hotel the better when traveling.  It adds to the story.  Our room was to be expected.  Ken and Ian had to take the last smoking room.  Standing out side there door and our clothing was contaminated...

The only place in town with beer was a Canadian Chinese joint.  The food was horrible.  We think microwave packets.  But the people in the bar were hilarious and friendly.  We rode back the the hotel thinking we were in some sort of time warp movie.

Canadians were skeptical to let Ian into the country.

Well after a short delay, they finally let him through!   Better pictures of this tomorrow.  Of course the border crossing guy had zero personality.  I'm sure part of the job description.

Temperance River! Mike jumped in!

What a trip up the north shore without stopping at this great spot to rest the buttocks!  I once climbed up on this railing and jumped in a few times when I was a little younger.   We did witness one old guy swimming down in the bottom.  The weather is nice and the bikes are running great!

Breakfast Stop! Beer an burger special I guess...

Well we are meeting Ken and Ian in Duluth at 10:00.    Good thing, because we spent some time with Gary and friends last night at the lake.   Should be somewhere in Canada tonight!
This was a great little joint just south of Superior.  The waitress was hugging on some guy at the end of the bar.  Mike and I were hoping all the customers got that same service.  Turns out he was her boy friend...   Wisconsin's finest had a car pulled over just out front.

Are we there yet?

After our quick burger at the Pour house, Mike and I took the pontoon across the lake to visit my good buddy Gary for some good laughs!

Canada?

Well, how can you start any trip without a burger at the Pour House!

Halfway to Canada!!!!

Mike and I stayed at our cabin the first night.  We went into dinner and then took a boat ride over to Gary's bonfire for a couple hours.  The lake was like glass tonight!  Mike and I will need to raise my windshield up about an inch tonight.  I am getting a little helmet buffeting...

And we're leaving!

The plan was to meet at my house in Minneapolis at 3:00.  apparently Ian had a major complicated install that day at work.  We will be meeting him and Ken in Duluth.  They will miss out on the fun at the cabin prior to the real take off!

July 9th, the day of departure!

I'm at my office and can't wait to get the heck out of here!  I love my job and all of my clients etc, but life is short and the roads are calling!

The last trip Mike Wencl and I went on perhaps worth mentioning was riding around India.  This should be a cake walk.  I am testing a rather new design by Honda.  A 2012 NC700.  This baby should get about 70mpg.  Sounds cool, so I guess I'll have more beer money at the evening stops!
I will be traveling with Mike Wencl, His brother Ken Wencl and Ian Wencl (Ken's son).  We have all been on trips together before, so this should be fun.  Ian just picked up a Pacific Coast before the trip. A year newer than Mikes.  Ken will be on his Road King.
